Felt Pouch Tutorial
This adorable and easy to make felt pouch is a perfect jewellery travel pouch, but really it could be used for anything you can think of and the size can easily be adjusted! It has two pockets inside to keep items organized and protected. I used leftover felt and bits of ribbon from other projects... so dig around and use up what you have! It took me about an hour, so it is a perfect little last minute gift too...
Cut one half in half again.
Cut the sheet of felt in half.
Line up a piece of ribbon on one piece of felt precisely down the centre (length-wise) leaving enough at each end to tie a bow. Pin in place.
Stitch in place using embroidery floss. Leave about .5” at each end so you can tie the knot between the ribbon and the felt to hide it. I used a simple straight stitch and a contrasting colour... but do whatever strikes your fancy!
Fold second square of felt in half width-wise and pin together at top. Pin folded felt to inside of felt cover being very careful to line up all the edges.
Stitch the two sides and bottom with a blanket stitch (see illustration of stitch #47). If you haven’t done this stitch before you might want to practice first. Pay attention when you are stitching to the back too... try to get it all fairly even! Another tip is to use two strands of the embroidery floss to make sure the colour stands out.
Depending on the ribbon you choose, you may want to tie a knot where the stitching ends to make it sit nice.
Voila! One made by you one-of-a-kind little pouch! Wasn’t that easy??
